What is coaxial cable

WINGUD   2024-08-06 16:11:12   0

A coaxial cable is a type of electrical cable designed to transmit signals with minimal interference. It consists of the following components:

  1. Central Conductor: Usually made of copper or aluminum, this wire carries the electrical signal.

  2. Insulating Layer: Surrounds the central conductor, providing electrical insulation and maintaining the proper spacing between the conductor and the shield.

  3. Shielding: A layer of metal foil or braided wire that surrounds the insulation. It helps to block external electromagnetic interference (EMI) and radio frequency interference (RFI), ensuring that the signal remains clear.

  4. Outer Jacket: The protective outer layer that shields the cable from physical damage, environmental factors, and chemical exposure.

The design of coaxial cables ensures that the electrical signals they carry are less susceptible to interference and signal loss compared to other types of cables, making them suitable for high-frequency applications such as television broadcasting, internet connectivity, and data transmission.
